The Trenton Thunder (16-12) claimed the opener of a three-game series from the Richmond Flying Squirrels (13-15), 3-1, in front of 6,804 on Friday night at The Diamond. With the victory, the Thunder remained unbeaten by the Squirrels this season, having won the first five meetings between the two clubs.
Georgia Tech closed to within five in the second half, but a 16-1 UVa. run pushed the Cavs to a 20-point lead, and they coasted from there to win 82-54 on Sunday.

Staunton Senior Center was in full swing with holiday activity and otherwise, starting out the day with a Memory Screening through the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Two lovely nurses provided by the local Health Department screened four members and three guests. Even though the numbers were small, the screening was worthwhile as it was recommended that some of the participants speak with their physicians when they next have appointments.

We teach our children that they have to play by the rules, but sometimes we as adults find ways to bend the rules when it suits our purpose. When governments change their own rules for their convenience, a cynicism sets in as to how serious we were about the rules in the first place. Two examples from Virginia government come to mind.
The idea of doing the same thing twice is Larry Kirwan’s idea of a nightmare. “I’ve been in bands that follow a set list every night. I literally start to shake at the thought of doing the same show twice in a row, let alone go out on tour and do the same show every night. I’d rather go to Wall Street. At least I’d be better off,” joked Kirwan, who will be performing his rock-n-read show at the WTA’s Gateway Theatre on Friday night.
