The Woodside Fire in Pendleton County, W.Va., has grown to 385 acres, according to the USDA Forest Service, and is now 75 percent contained – with helpful precipitation and cold temperatures on the way.
The fire was detected on Wednesday south of Circleville, near the community of Big Mountain, about 20 miles from the West Virginia-Virginia border, and was initially estimated at 50 acres.
Firefighters will continue to monitor the fire to be sure all containment lines are holding. Given the significant efforts over the weekend and expected weather, there is a very low probability of fire spreading today, according to a report from the Forest Service.
Crews will continue to patrol and extinguish any remaining hotspots as road and trail conditions allow for safe access, and will begin rehabilitating the land following wildfire suppression efforts. Firefighters and crews will begin to return any unneeded equipment and demobilize to return home.
