Women’s basketball: UVA hosts Charlotte on Sunday

UVA women’s basketballThe UVA women’s basketball team (5-7, 0-0 ACC) closes out the non-conference portion of its schedule by hosting Charlotte (8-3, 0-0 C-USA) at John Paul Jones Arena on Sunday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m.

Noting the Cavaliers

  • The game against Charlotte is the final non-conference contest of the year
  • Virginia finished last season’s non-conference slate with a 7-6 record
  • Virginia scored 29 points in the fourth quarter against South Florida, its highest single-quarter output of the year
  • The 74 points against USF was the highest offensive output of the year for the Cavaliers
  • Virginia has only been outrebounded twice this season. Virginia has yet to have fewer turnovers in a game than its opponent
  • Junior guards Dominique Toussaint (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Jocelyn Willoughby (East Orange, N.J.) were both named to the Florida Sunshine Classic All-Tournament Team
  • Toussaint scored a combined 30 points with 13 assists in the tournament
  • Toussaint had six assists against Alabama and seven against South Florida. She has five games this season in which she has logged five or more assists
  • Willoughby scored 23 points against South Florida, her second time in the last four games that she has posted a 20-point performance
  • Willoughby has scored in double figures in nine of the last ten games, with the lone single-digit performance being her nine-points against Coppin State
  • Willoughby, who is averaging a career-best 7.9 rebounds per game this season, is closing in on the 500-rebound benchmark. She comes into the game 22 shy with 478 total in her career
  • Senior forward Mone Jones (Durham, N.C.) grabbed 10 rebounds against South Florida, the second double-digit rebounding game of her career
  • Sophomore guard Brianna Tinsley (Madison, Va.) has grabbed five rebounds in each of the last five games
  • In the last four games, junior forward Lisa Jablonowski (Ernster, Luxembourg) is averaging 7.75 points and 9.75 rebounds per game
  • After blocking three shots against Alabama, Jablonowski now has a career-best 10 blocked shots this season. Jocelyn Willoughby has also blocked 10 shots this season
