Winston-Salem blanks Potomac Nationals

Chris Graham

Scott Snodgress pitched six innings of one-hit baseball as the Winston-Salem Dash continued their success over the Potomac Nationals with a 6-0 victory at Pfitzner Stadium.  With the loss, the Nationals dropped to 4-14 against Winston-Salem this season.

Snodgress (3-0) earned his second win in as many starts against the Nationals after tossing five and two-thirds for the win on August 4th at BB&T Ballpark.  This time around, Snodgress was even better throwing six scoreless frames with five strikeouts.  Kevin Keyes had the lone hit off Snodgress and in the game for the Nationals in the second inning with a double.

The Dash jumped on top with a run in the top of the second inning. Dan Black reached on a one-out double and moved to third base with two outs.  Kevan Smith broke the scoreless tie with an infield single to give Winston-Salem a 1-0 lead.

Marcus Semien extended the lead to 2-0 for the Dash in the third inning with an RBI double that scored Kevan Smith.

Winston-Salem created some separation in the fourth inning adding four more runs.  After Michael Earley reached on an error, Smith hit his third home run of the season over the centerfield wall to double the lead.  Later in the inning, David Herbek scored on a double by Juan Silverio after an error in left field by J.P. Ramirez.  Keenyn Walker stepped to the plate next and brought in Silverio with a sacrifice fly to put the Dash up 6-0.

Robbie Ray (4-9) made his fifth start of the year against the Dash and suffered the loss.  He lasted four innings allowing six runs, four of them earned, on six hits.
