The Wildlife Center of Virginia will release another young Bald Eagle back into the wild, and the public is invited to join in the celebration.
On Thursday, the Center will release a Bald Eagle at Kiptopeke State Park in Cape Charles at 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The release will be held at Shelter Area One, and park staff will be available to help direct visitors to the correct location once they have arrived at the park.
Attendees are encouraged to RSVP with their name and the number in their party. More information about the release, including how to RSVP and directions to the release site, is available online.
Bald Eagle #25-2450 was admitted on June 24 from Norfolk. The fledgling had been found grounded for more than a week, with no parents observed in the area. Upon admission, the Center’s veterinary team determined that the eagle was thin and suffered from subclinical lead poisoning, with a lead level of 0.056 ppm.
After one round of chelation therapy to remove the lead, the eagle was deemed healthy and moved to a large outdoor flight pen to begin flight conditioning. At the end of July, the eagle began undergoing daily flight exercises with our rehabilitation team to rebuild strength. By late August, the patient was officially cleared for release by the Center’s vet team.
The Wildlife Center is expected to treat more than 4,500 patients in 2025, including sick, injured and orphaned wild animals from across Virginia. Thus far in 2025, the Center has admitted 56 Bald Eagles, including the one scheduled to be released on Thursday.
