Waynesboro YMCA offers homeschool fitness program

Waynesboro YMCA member Tina Ruszala has been homeschooling her three children for more than five years.

As in any homeschool community, the parents involved work together to provide different education and socializing experiences.

One thing has been missing among local homeschool families in the Waynesboro area.

“We go to different co-op groups, and the moms are so into the academic side of it, and the socializing part of it, that we kind of forget about the fitness side of it, how we have to stay active and healthy throughout our lives,” said Ruszala, who is working with the YMCA to provide a new homeschool fitness program.

Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-3 p.m. Class size is limited to 12, so those interested must register at the Y in person at 648 S. Wayne Ave., Waynesboro, by phone at (540) 942-5107 or by emailing [email protected].

The class is free to members for the month of December.

“This is a great opportunity for kids to get together and socialize, and get the fitness side of it,” Ruszala said.
