Caleb Palensky’s RBI single with two outs in the ninth tied it, and Brandon Glazer’s two-out RBI single in the 10th was the difference as Waynesboro won on the road at Haymarket 10-9 Sunday night.

The Generals had already rallied from a three-run deficit to tie the game at 8 in the seventh with the key hit being a two-out RBI single by Julian Ridings.

The Senators took the lead right back in the bottom of the seventh on a homer by Larry Balkwill that made it 9-8 Haymarket.

The game stayed that way until the ninth, when Senators reliever Shay Maltese got the first two men out before Ridings kept the inning and the game alive with a double. The next batter, Bradley Noland, walked, and Palensky promptly lined a single that scored Ridings from second with the tying run.

In the 10th, Austin Johnson was hit by a pitch with one out and advanced to second on a wild pitch before being knocked home on the single by Glazer, who had just come into the game as a pinch-hitter.

Jacob Hoyle (1-0) struck out the side in the bottom of the 10th to preserve the win.

Hoyle struck out four in two and a third innings out of the bullpen. He also had three hits and two RBI to lead the 19-hit Generals offensive attack.

Ridings, Palensky and Brandon Murray also had three hits for Waynesboro, which remains tied for first place in the South Division with the win.

The Generals return home to Mathers Park at Kate Collins Field Monday night at 7 p.m. for a game with South Division rival Rockbridge.

Devin Smith (3-0, 2.70 ERA) gets the start for Waynesboro against Rockbridge’s Jeremy Jansen (0-1, 2.66 ERA).
