WSO Picture Peter Wilson-3Waynesboro Symphony Orchestra Music Director Dr. Peter Wilson  has been appointed music director of The Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra.

He was selected from a large field of applicants after an audience review of the directing performance of four finalists. The Waynesboro Symphony Orchestra said Wilson has made it clear to the many friends of the WSO that this new appointment will in no way lessen his time with the local orchestra.

In addition to his leadership of the Waynesboro Symphony and now The Richmond Philharmonic, Wilson also serves as Concertmaster of the American Festival Pops Orchestra of Washington, D.C. Highly respected throughout the National Capital Region, he has served as a violinist of The White House for over two decades and has conducted such renowned institutions as the National Symphony Orchestra and the National Gallery Orchestra.

Wilson will lead the Waynesboro Symphony Orchestra’s annual concert at Charlottesville’s Paramount Theater to be held Friday, October 25th.  Titled “Symphonic Masquerade,” the program included Strauss’ Overture to “Die Fledermaus,” Mussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain,” Gounod’s Funeral March of a Marionette and excerpts from Weber’s “Phantom of the Opera.”

Details are found on the Symphony’s website www.WSOMusic.org.
