Waynesboro Senior Center report: Week of Feb. 14

Chris Graham

The Waynesboro Senior Center, sponsored by Valley Program for Aging Services, invites people 60 years of age and older to participate in a variety of programs to be offered in the coming week. The center, at 325 Pine Ave., in the Jackson-Wilson building, is open 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Transportation is provided as needed by a VPAS van driver, who also helps with shopping trips and appointments to local doctors. Contributions toward expenses are accepted. Additional information can be found at www.waynesboroseniorcenter.org.

Second pool table on its way

The Recreation Room redecorating project at the Senior Center is well underway now. Staff and volunteers have contributed much time to painting, rearranging, and organizing. While we still need to install new light fixtures and window coverings, the most exciting addition is now on order. Research done by several people enabled us to find a brand new eight foot slate table at a discounted price. We expect it to be delivered in the next two weeks.

If you are age 60 or older and like to shoot pool, or would like to learn, we encourage you to visit the Center. We have a good group of members, both men and women, that play. Most of them learned here or brushed up on their skills here, so they are happy to offer helpful tips to beginners. We also have pool tournaments throughout the year. Congratulations go out to the champions from our January Tournament: Ladies Champion, Lil Roksha and Men’s Champion, David Rose. Our next tournament is scheduled for April this year.

Weekly Menu

MONDAY: Meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy, brussels sprouts, hot spiced fruit

TUESDAY: Spaghetti, broccoli, tossed salad, fruit

WEDNESDAY: Potato crunch pollock, scalloped potatoes, green beans, fruit cocktail

THURSDAY: Oven fried chicken, chuckwagon corn, stewed tomatoes, fruit

FRIDAY: Pork patty, pinto beans, greens, cookies

Lunch is served at 11:45 a.m. each day. All meals are served with milk and bread and provide one-third of the daily nutrition value required for adults. Call 942-1838 to make reservations by 10 a.m. on the day you plan to attend.
