Waynesboro: River City Radio Hour reunion planned at Wayne Theatre in January

Crystal Graham

river city radio hour reunion As the Wayne Theatre prepares to celebrate its 100-year anniversary, a special event is planned to honor a century of storytelling and performance on the stage.

The Waynesboro theatre will bring back the River City Radio Hour for one night on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m.

The special event is also being offered to celebrate 10 years since the downtown movie theater reopened to the public as an arts education and performing arts center.

The River City Radio Hour reunion will include popular favorites including The Boogie Kings, Marsha Howard, the Hens of Renown, Kevin Chisnell and additional surprise guests who helped define the Radio Hour’s signature blend of music, laughter and heartfelt local storytelling.

In keeping with tradition, the evening will also feature an original radio serial performed live on stage, written exclusively for this centennial celebration.

“This celebration is not just about looking back. It is about investing in the next century of artistic opportunity, education and community impact,” said Tracy Straight, executive director of the Wayne Theatre.

The Wayne Theatre originally opened in 1926; and reopened after extensive renovations for live performances and arts education in 2016.

Tickets for the reunion event range from $20 to $100.
