Waynesboro Generals fall at Covington, 12-4

generals-lumberjacks3The Covington Lumberjacks pounded out 20 hits en route to recording a 12-4 win over the Waynesboro Generals Saturday night.

The Generals’ early-season pitching struggles continued a night after falling 13-11 to rival Staunton. Starting pitcher Tyler Fox (freshman, Nebraska-Omaha) took the loss after giving up five runs, all earned, and nine hits in four and two-thirds innings. The bullpen, for a second straight night, couldn’t keep Waynesboro close in the middle innings. Player Loving (freshman, Columbia) gave up four runs, three earned, on seven hits in two and a third innings, and Thomas Young (freshman, Western Carolina) gave up three runs on four hits in his inning of work on the mound.

JoJo Woods (junior, Central Florida), Ben Boykin (junior, College of Charleston) and Anthony Renz (sophomore, Mansfield) each had two hits for Waynesboro.

The Generals host New Market Sunday night at 7 p.m. at Linco Park at Kate Collins Field. The contest will be the Waynesboro Generals WSVA Game of the Week. The broadcast on 550AM will start at 6:30 p.m. with host Chris Graham.
