Matt den Dekker hit a tie-breaking two-run homer in the eighth, lifting the Washington Nationals to a 5-3 win in the conclusion of a game that had been suspended due to power issues Friday night.
On the power front, the Nationals issued a statement Saturday blaming the outages on a faulty circuit breaker, and not two Taylor Swift concerts held at Nationals Park earlier in the week.
The team said through a spokesperson that the issue was corrected after midnight into Saturday morning, and the lights were tested throughout the night with no additional problems.
The lights failed at three different junctures Friday night, causing two delays and then the eventual decision to suspend the game, with the Nats ahead, 3-2, in the top of the sixth.
After the resumption of the game on Saturday afternoon, Adrian Gonzalez homered in the sixth, his 19th of the season, to tie the game at 3-3. It would stay that way until the bottom of the eighth. With two outs and a runner on first, den Dekker took the first pitch that he saw from Dodgers reliever Pedro Baez (2-2, 3.42 ERA) over the wall in right for his second homer of the season.
Nats closer Drew Storen had a rough ninth, walking Yasiel Puig to lead off the inning, then allowing an Andre Ethier single to put runners on first and second with no one out.
Storen got Jimmy Rollins to line out to center and Alberto Callaspo to fly out to left before striking out Joc Pederson to end it and close out his 28th save.
