Top Washington Nationals prospect Dylan Crews will make his MLB debut on Monday when the Nats host the New York Yankees.
Crews was the #2 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. The 5’11”, 203-pound centerfielder has slashed .272/.343/.455 with 13 homers, 68 RBIs and 25 stolen bases in 99 games at Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Rochester this season.
The arrival of Crews brings another cornerstone of the Nats’ rebuild to the big-league level.
Another top prospect, leftfielder James Wood, has already made himself a mainstay, slashing .289/.379/.458 with five homers and 30 RBIs in 45 games since his callup on July 1.
Wood was among the prospect haul the Nats got back from San Diego in the 2022 deadline-deal trade of slugger Juan Soto, who is now with the Yankees, with free agency pending after the 2024 season.
Two others acquired in the trade are already contributing big time at the big-league level: shortstop CJ Abrams (.246/.320/.443, 18 HRs, 60 RBIs, 25 SBs) was a 2024 All-Star, and lefty MacKenzie Gore (7-11, 4.66 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, 9.7Ks/9) has settled in as a reliable #2 starter in the Nats’ rotation.
One more top prospect who could get a callup soon is the 2021 first-round pick, Brady House (.246/.310/.431, 18 HRs, 59 RBIs at Double-A and Triple-A in 2024).
House is a third baseman with an estimated big-league ETA of spring training 2025.
Get House in the mix, and the Nats would have three-fourths of their infield (House at third, Abrams at short, Luis Garcia Jr. at second), two-thirds of their outfield (Wood in left, Crews in center) and their everyday catcher (Keibert Ruiz) in place, leaving as lineup holes just first base and right field.
Fill those holes in free agency, and 2025 could be interesting for fans in DC.
