Washington County: One woman dead in Interstate 81 reckless driving crash

A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in Washington County on Monday claimed the life of a 58-year-old woman.

Vickie L. Taylor, a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries the following day.

The driver, Mikel A. Taylor, 59, suffered serious injuries.

Virginia State Police is investigation the fatal accident that occurred March 3 on I-81 northbound near the 19-mile marker.

Taylor said an unknown object struck the windshield causing him to drive off the right side of the interstate where he struck a fence and tree.

Mikel Taylor has been charged with reckless driving.

The crash remains under investigation.
