Voices of Unity offers Christmas concert on Sunday

AFP

VoicesOfUnityChoirThe Voices of Unity are ready to make a joyful noise for their 19th Christmas Concert Celebration this Sunday at 5 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 100 E. Frederick Street, Staunton.

Choir members hail from eight different churches in Staunton, Augusta County, Waynesboro, Lexington and Richmond. Participants from four additional churches will greet and usher concert attendees.

Three beloved directors with fan clubs of their own – Janet Howard, Pam Sproul and Delphine Bell-Bailey –  will lead the choir in traditional Christmas music, African American gospel selections and fun holiday songs.

Master of Ceremonies, Pastor Warne Dawkins of Shiloh Baptist Church in Waynesboro, will be joined in the pulpit by Pastor Karen Allamon, celebrating her call to First Presbyterian and recent arrival in Staunton after serving the Rock Spring Presbyterian Church in Atlanta.

Four choir members are local pastors and several singers have performed throughout Virginia, France and Switzerland with the French American Gospel Choir.

Voices of Unity founder, Patricia Giles, says joy and enthusiasm abound among and around the choir members who have been singing together since 1997 when Giles followed her dream of uniting voices from different area choirs to celebrate the Christmas season.

Participating churches are:

  • Allen Chapel A.M.E.
  • Augusta Street United Methodist
  • Beverly Manor Baptist
  • First Church of God in Christ (with Pastor Alphonso Hamilton)
  • Staunton First Presbyterian (with Pastor Karen Allamon)
