Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alum 1st Lt. Nick Tibbetts named Miami game Hokie Hero

hokie hero miamiU.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Nick Tibbetts, a Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus who earned a degree in aerospace engineering from the College of Engineering and a minor in leadership studies from the corps’ Rice Center for Leader Development and in mathematics in 2015, was selected as the Hokie Hero for Saturday’s game against Miami.

The Hokie Hero program honors corps alumni who are deployed. Recipients are highlighted by Jon Laaser and Mike Burnop during their radio broadcast of Hokie football games, on the Corps of Cadets website, and in the Corps Review alumni magazine.

Tibbetts is deployed to an undisclosed location as a pilot with the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing. The wing includes an array of combat capabilities, including precision strike, aerial refueling, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, space, and combat search and rescue in direct support of Operation Inherent Resolve, the military intervention against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
