Virginia State Police: One dead in fatal head-on crash in Rappahannock County

A Sperryville man is dead after a fatal crash in Rappahannock County on Monday afternoon.

Virginia State Police is investigating the two-vehicle crash that occurred at 12:55 p.m. on Route 522, or Zachary Taylor Highway, approximately one half of a mile south of Route 662.

Gerald L. Ochs, 79, died at the scene, according to Virginia State Police. He was wearing a seatbelt.

Ochs’ vehicle was traveling south when it crossed the center line and collided head on with a northbound Ford F-150.

The driver of the F-150, a 61-year-old male from Inwood, W.Va., suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Valley Health Winchester Medical Center for treatment. He was not wearing a seatbelt and his name has not been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
