Virginia State Police investigating fatal Greene County crash

Virginia State Police Trooper S.M. Gregory is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash in Greene County. The crash occurred Tuesday at 10:05 a.m. on Route 33 at the intersection of Greencroft Boulevard.

A 1992 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck was traveling south on Greencroft Blvd. It pulled across the eastbound lanes of Route 33 and into the path of an eastbound 2012 Honda Fit. The Honda was unable to avoid striking the S10. The impact of the crash spun the Honda around in the highway.

The driver of the Honda, Eloise R. Giles, 97, of Stanardsville, Va., was transported to UVA Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries. She was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Chevrolet, James C. Raines, 87, of Stanardsville, Va., was transported to a nearby hospital for treatement of serious injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.

Raines was charged with failure to yield the right of way.
