The ACC’s nine member schools among the top 25 and 13 schools among the top 50 are also the most of any conference.

Virginia (sixth place), Louisville (eighth), Notre Dame (ninth) and North Carolina (10th) led the ACC’s strong fall showing.

Florida State checked in at No. 11, followed by No. 14 Clemson, and Boston College and NC State tied for 15th. Virginia Tech holds the 21st spot.

Syracuse (27th), Pitt (36th), Wake Forest (39th) and Duke (43rd) also stand among the top 50.

North Carolina field hockey’s second consecutive NCAA championship led the ACC’s fall sports season.

Clemson football, Virginia men’s soccer and North Carolina women’s soccer each placed second nationally.

In addition, ACC football led the nation with 10 bowl teams. Three of the final four teams in the NCAA Field Hockey Championship were ACC representatives (UNC, Boston College and Virginia), and Virginia and Wake Forest represented the conference in the NCAA Men’s Soccer College Cup.

The first winter standings will be published on Thursday, March 26.

The Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in NCAA Championships.
