Virginia Cyber Security Commission to meet at JMU

jamesmadisonlogopurplepcThe JMU Office of Research and Scholarship will host a cyber security town hall on Friday, April 24, to introduce the public to the newly created Virginia Cyber Security Commission. The event takes place from 2:30-4 p.m. in room 1007 of the Bioscience Building on the JMU campus east of Interstate 81.

The event will feature keynote and panel presentations, as well as a question and answer session between the audience and commission members. The talks will cover a variety of cyber security topics including recent national hacks, federal and state programs, best practices, cyber education and cyber crime.  Speakers will include:

  • Yvonne Harris, JMU, Vice Provost for Research and Scholarship
  • Edna Reid, JMU, Associate Professor of Intelligence Analysis
  • Andrew Turner, VISA, Vice President & Head of Global Security
  • Bob Day, U.S. Coast Guard (ret.), Rear Admiral and Virginia Cyber Security Commission Executive Director
  • Jennifer Bisceglie, Interos Solutions, Inc., CEO

Governor Terry McAuliffe created the Virginia Cyber Security Commission (https://cyberva.virginia.gov/Town-Hall-Events) in 2014 to help position Virginia as a leader in cyber security. The commission brings together experts from both the public and private sectors.
