The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services announced Tuesday that corn production inVirginia is forecast at 49.6 million bushels, down 1 percent from the October forecast and down 2 percent from the previous crop. Yield was estimated at 160.0 bushels per acre, down 2.0 bushels from last month but up 15.0 bushels from the 2014 level. Acres for harvest as grain were estimated at 310,000 acres, down 40,000 acres from 2014.
The U.S. corn production is forecast at 13.7 billion bushels, up 1 percent from the October forecast but down 4 percent from 2014. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 169.3 bushels per acre, up 1.3 bushels from last month but down 1.7 bushels from 2014. Area harvested for grain is forecast at 80.7 million acres, unchanged from the October forecast and down 3 percent from 2014.
Soybean production for Virginia is forecast at 22.9 million bushels, down 5 percent from the October forecast and down 9 percent from 2014. Yield was estimated at 37.0 bushels per acre, down 2.0 bushels from last month and down 2.5 bushels from a year ago. Acreage for harvest as beans was estimated at 620,000 acres, down 20,000 acres from the previous year.
U.S. soybean production is forecast at 3.98 billion bushels, up 2 percent from the October forecast and up 1 percent from last year. Based on November 1 conditions, yields are expected to average 48.3 bushels per acre, up 1.1 bushels from last month and up 0.8 bushels from last year. Area for harvest is forecast at 82.4 million acres, unchanged from the October forecast but down slightly from 2014.
Virginia cotton production is projected to be 150,000 bales, down 21 percent from the October forecast and down 32 percent from last year. Cotton yields are forecast to average 857 pounds per acre, down 229 pounds from last month and down 382 pounds per acre from the previous year. Producers expect to harvest 84,000 acres, unchanged from the October forecast but down 2,000 acres from 2014.
U.S. cotton production was forecast at 13.3 million 480-pound bales, down slightly from the October forecast and down 19 percent from 2014. Yields are forecast to average 782 pounds per acre, down 2 pounds from last month and down 56 pounds from last year. Upland cotton production is forecast at 12.8 million 480-pound bales, down 19 percent from 2014. Pima cotton production is forecast at 451,000 480-pound bales, down 20 percent from 2014.
Peanut farmers in Virginia anticipate harvesting 76.0 million pounds for 2015, down 10 percent from last year. Acres expected to be harvested total 19,000 acres, unchanged from last year. Producers expect a yield of 4,000 pounds per acre, down 450 pounds from 2014.
National peanut production is forecast to be 6.17 billion, up 19 percent from last year. Acres harvested are projected to total 1.57 million acres, up 19 percent from the previous year. Yields are anticipated to average 3,922 pounds per acre, down 1 pound per acre from 2014.
