Virginia agricultural producers invited to explore export opportunities

virginiaVDACS’ Office of International Marketing promotes Virginia agricultural commodities, wood products, seafood and specialty food and beverage items through a global network of trade offices and representatives in Canada, Central America, China, Europe, Hong Kong, India, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

For the first time this June, Virginia’s international representatives will travel the Commonwealth for a week of one-on-one meetings with Virginia producers, aimed at exploring and assisting each company with international sales opportunities.

Interested Virginia agriculture and forestry businesses are invited to participate in these meetings with VDACS’ trade representatives from around the world:

  • Richmond: Monday, June 22, 2015
  • Blacksburg: Wednesday, June 24, 2015
  • Winchester: Thursday, June 25, 2015

Virginia’s international representatives can help producers assess market potential, understand international regulations, identify buyers and learn about product-specific programs and marketing events. To register for one-on-one meetings or request more information, interested Virginia agriculture and forestry businesses may contact Caitlin Clark in VDACS’ Office of International Marketing at 540.461.1246.

According to a 2013 economic impact study conducted by the University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, agriculture and forestry are two of Virginia’s largest private industries with a combined economic impact of $70 billion annually. Agriculture generates more than $52 billion per annum, while forestry induces more than $17 billion. The industries also provide more than 400,000 jobs in the Commonwealth.
