Veterans Job Fair set for April 30

economic-forecast-headerThe Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) are partnering to sponsor the third annual Veterans Only Job Fair.  The event will be held in the Salem VAMC Auditorium (Building 5) on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm.  Shuttles will be available to help transport Veterans from the parking area to the Auditorium.

About 30 employers will be available to discuss job opportunities and offer assistance to Veterans  beginning the application process.  Employers include representatives from:  Adams, American Electric Power (AEP), Ardagh, Atlas, AXA-Advisors, Dish Network, Boxley, Carilion Clinic, Dynax, Elizabeth Arden, FreightCar, Frito Lay, Goodwill, Home Depot, Lawrence Transportation, Lowes, Modern Woodmen of America, Ply-Gym, Roanoke City, RR Donnelley, The Omni/Homestead, Roanoke Times, Salem VAMC, US Foods, Virginia Tech, and Walmart.

Staff will be on hand to assist with application submissions, resume preparation, and providing tips and tools to help Veterans get hired.

“We realize many Veterans returning from military service are faced with challenges in finding gainful employment.  We are very proud to be in partnership with VEC and many area employers who have expressed an interest in hiring and working with Veterans.  Veterans bring a wide array of experience, skills, and training which make them ideal candidates for many positions,” stated Dr. Miguel LaPuz, Salem VAMC Director.
