road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the VDOT Staunton Transportation District during the coming weeks.

The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal and clearing sign areas, cleaning bridge ditches and slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 60 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 159 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 311 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Brush cutting, shoulder repairs and pothole repairs with flagger traffic control. Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Brush-cutting, shoulder repairs, and pothole repairs with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Pothole repairs and shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control. Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Pothole repairs, brush cutting and shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control. Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal and crews cleaning paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 45.65, eastbound – Lane closures as needed for pipe inspection and cleaning. January 20 through January 23.

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal and crews cleaning paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 53.3 to 55.3, eastbound and westbound.  Eastbound traffic will detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge for about a year while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, repairing mile marker signs and cleaning paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 193 to 190, southbound.  Nighttime left lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., for guardrail upgrades and shoulder paving. Estimated completion Jan. 15, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 130 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 252 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 501 – Tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Brush cutting, pothole repairs, ditching, shoulder repairs, pipe replacement and tree removal with flagger traffic control. Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Exit 91 (Fishersville) – Possible overnight closures and detours via on- and off-ramps at exit 91 for demolition work on old Route 285 bridge over the interstate. Weeknights 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Median shoulder closures and possible right shoulder closures for installation of underground conduit system in median. Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Estimated completion July 6, 2015.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, repairing mile marker signs, cleaning bridge slopes and paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 207 – Right shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 620 bridge over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 29, 2015.

Mile marker 219.9 – Shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 647 (Christians Creek Road) bridge over I-81. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 29, 2015.

Mile marker 221 – Shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 635 (Barterbrook Road) bridge over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 29, 2015.

Mile marker 224.3 – Shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 254 (New Hope Road) bridge over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 29, 2015.

Mike marker 228.4 – Shoulder closures as needed for Route 781 (Mill Race Road) bridge work over I-81. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 29, 2015.

Mile marker 230.3 – Shoulder closure as needed for Route 742 (Toll Gate Road) bridge work over I-81. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 29, 2015.

Mile marker 232.6 – Shoulder closure as needed for Route 775 (Buttermilk Road) bridge work over I-81. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 29, 2015.

Mile marker 233.9 – Shoulder closure as needed for Route 750 (Keezletown Road) bridge work over I-81. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 29, 2015.

Mile marker 235.2 – Shoulder closure as needed for Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road) bridge work over I-81. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 29, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 250/358 Intersection – Eastbound shoulder closure for gas line installation across Route 250.

Route 250/642 Intersection – Eastbound shoulder closure for gas line installation.

Route 254 (New Hope Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure as needed for bridge work over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 29, 2015.

Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road) – Bridge work over I-81.  Work resumes January 5, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 29, 2015.

Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Watch for shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road-widening project between Route 636 and Route 635.

(UPDATE) Route 340 – Right shoulder closures as needed at various locations for fiber optic installation from Route 11/Greenville to the Augusta/Rockingham County Line. Estimated completion January 31, 2014.

Route 340/635 Intersection – Lane shifts and shoulder closures for gas line installation on northbound shoulder between Route 649 and Route 635.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 608 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Alternating lane closures with flaggers for improvements at intersection with Route 648. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion May 31, 2015.

Route 620 (Spotswood Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for repairs on Route 620 bridge over I-81. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 29, 2015.

Route 635 (Barterbrook Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure as needed for bridge work over I-81. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 29, 2015.

Route 636 (Lifecore Drive) – Watch for shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road-widening project west of Route 285.

Route 647 (Christians Creek Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure as needed for bridge work over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 29, 2015.

Route 648 (Christians Creek Road) – Alternating lane closures with flaggers for intersection improvements at Route 648/Route 608 intersection.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion May 31, 2015.

Route 742 (Toll Gate Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure as needed for bridge work over I-81. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 29, 2015.

Route 750 (Keezletown Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure as needed for bridge work over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 29, 2015.

Route 781 (Mill Race Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for bridge work over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 29, 2015.

(NEW) Route 801(Hagers Mill Road) – Road closure for bridge replacement over Jennings Branch from January 26 to October 5. Work zone from 0.15 miles north of Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) to 0.28 mile north of Route 250 (Churchville Avenue). Traffic will be detoured using Route 250 and Route 835.  Watch for detour signs.  Local Route 801 traffic will have access to driveways during construction.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Pothole repairs as needed. Debris and brush removal, Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 253.8, northbound and southbound – Alternating right shoulder closure with bucket truck at Route 721 (Fellowship Road) overpass for bridge inspection. January 12, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 257.6 to 258.2, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures as needed for soil testing work, Monday to Thursdays, January 6 to 27, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 259.2, northbound and southbound – Alternating right shoulder closure with bucket truck at Route 798 (Tenth Legion Road) overpass for bridge inspection.  January 13, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 (Valley Pike) from Route 259 to Route 608 – Single lane closures as needed for soil testing work, January 6 to 27, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 257 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours.

(NEW) Route 259 (Mayland Road) from Route 11to 0.1 mile north of intersection – Single lane closures as needed for soil testing work, January 6 to 27, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Route 280 (Stone Spring Road) – Be alert for new traffic patterns:  New portions of four-lane roadway open between Peach Grove Avenue and Route 253 (Port Republic Road).

(NEW) Route 608 (Mauzy, Athlone Road) from Route 11 to 0.1-mile south of intersection – Single lane closures as needed for soil testing work, January 6 to 27, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.SECONDARY ROADS

Mile marker 280 to 273, southbound.  Nighttime left lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., for guardrail upgrades and shoulder paving. Estimated completion Jan. 15, 2015.

(NEW) Mile marker 284.3, northbound and southbound – Alternating right shoulder closure with bucket truck at Route 816 (West Spring Street) overpass for bridge inspection.  January 14, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours.  Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 760 (Water Street) – Flagger controlled traffic from Route 1403 to 0.30 mile east for bridge replacement over Stony Creek. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion June 2015.

Various roads – Pipe cleaning, drainage work, brush cutting and pothole patching.

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 318.8, southbound – Alternating right and left lane closures over Western and Winchester Railroad for bridge inspection.  January 16, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 322, northbound and southboundSlow roll closures north of Clearbrook to install overhead utility lines crossing I-81.  January 11 at 7:45 a.m. and should require 15 minutes or less to completeTraffic will be controlled with a northbound slow roll beginning at mile marker 318. The southbound slow roll starts at mile marker 1.0 in West Virginia. Flaggers will control traffic at the Clearbrook northbound on-ramp (exit 321) and at the Hopewell/Flying J southbound on-ramp (exit 323) during the slow roll.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Pothole repairs as needed. Debris and brush removal, Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 50, east – Shoulder closures for the construction of a new crossover between Route 781 (Prince Frederick Drive) and Route 655 (Sulphur Spring Road).  Daylight hours.  Estimated completion March 15, 2015.

Route 50 – Shoulder closures for the installation of fiber optic conduit between Route 600 and Route 803.  Estimated completion is Jan. 31, 2015.

Route 522 – Northbound shoulder closures for the installation of fiber optic conduit between Route 679 and the West Virginia Line.  Estimated completion is Jan. 9, 2015.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Shoulder repair, pothole patching and brush cutting.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – New traffic pattern with lane shifts on north and south ends of the bridge replacement project over Gooney Creek. Work zone from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605.

Route 340/522 (North Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road), from Duck Street to 17th Street – Old South Fork bridge replacement and interchange modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road) and 340/522.  Additional lane shift and closure of center turn lane from the south end of the bridge to just past 17th Street and closure of 18th Street to through traffic. Through traffic will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street. Lane shifts on Route 55 just west of Route 340/522. These changes will be in effect through summer 2015.  Estimated bridge completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Pipe cleaning, brush cutting and pothole patching.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.

Dial 1-800-FOR-ROAD(1-800-367-7623) from anywhere in the state to report road hazards, ask transportation questions, or get information related to Virginia’s roads.
