VDOT has updated its schedule for road work and construction ongoing in Augusta County, Rockbridge County and Rockingham County for the coming week.

Augusta County

Interstate 81

  • Mile marker 206 to 208, northbound – Overnight right lane closures for installation of traffic sensors, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through Thursday night.
  • *UPDATE* Mile marker 221 to 227, northbound and southbound – Overnight left lane closure northbound from mile marker 221 to 222 for guardrail repairs, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday night. Shoulder closures northbound and southbound 24/7 through spring 2026. Traffic restrictions are for I-81 widening project. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour.
  • *NEW* Exit 227, southbound – Right shoulder closures along off-ramp for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Mile marker 232 to 237, northbound and southbound –Left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing lanes.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 235 to 237, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane and shoulder closures for bridge inspection, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Wednesday night.

*NEW* Route 254 (Hermitage Road) – Flagger traffic control at intersections with Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) and Route 792 (Indian Mound Road/Balsley Road) for intersection improvements, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through May 29, 2026.

*NEW* Route 262 (Hermitage Road) – Eastbound right shoulder closures between Route 11 (Commerce Road/Lee Highway) and FR-Route 224 (Bells Lane/Country Club Road) for utility work, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*NEW* Route 340 (East Side Highway) – Flagger traffic control between Route 672/619 (Patrick Mill Lane/Turk Mountain Lane) and Route 619 (Purple Cow Road) for overhead utility work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 15 – 23.

*NEW* Route 612 (Pleasant View Road) – Flagger traffic control near Route 613 (Spring Hill Road) intersection for utility work, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Tuesday.

Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road, Verona) – Occasional flagger traffic control and westbound turn-lane closures at Route 901 (Mill Place Parkway) for intersection improvements, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays through August 2026.

Route 636 (Old Goose Creek Road) – Flagger traffic control near Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) intersection for pipe installation, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Dec. 24.

Route 834 (Hickory Hill Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 631 (Ladd Road) and Route 640 (Goose Creek Road) for waterline installation, 7:30 to 4 p.m. through April 2026.

Route 901 (Mill Place Parkway, Verona) – Occasional flagger traffic control near Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road) for intersection and roadway improvements, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays through August 2026.

Various roads – Mobile traffic control for mowing operations. Flagger traffic control for drainage work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 to 3 p.m. weekdays.


Rockbridge County

Interstate 64

  • *UPDATE* Mile marker 57 to 56, westbound – Alternating lane closures for overhead sign work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

Interstate 81  

  • *UPDATE* Mile marker 191 to 176, southbound – Right shoulder closures including along Exits 188 and 180 off-ramps for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Mile marker 204 to 206, northbound – Overnight right lane closures for installation of traffic sensors, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through Thursday night.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

Rockingham County

Interstate 81

  • *NEW* Mile marker 237 to 239, northbound and southbound – Overnight singe lane and shoulder closures for bridge inspection, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Wednesday night.
  • Mile marker 237 to 238, northbound and southbound – Left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing lanes.
  • Mile marker 240 to 246, northbound and southbound – Slow-roll traffic control (rolling roadblocks) for overhead utility work between 5 a.m. and 12 noon Sunday (Dec. 14).
  • *UPDATE* Mile marker 242 to 248, northbound and southbound – Closure of southbound off-ramp to eastbound Route 33 at exit 247A for ramp reconstruction, 7 a.m. Thursday to 4 p.m. Friday. Detour in place. Single lane closures 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for Route 33 bridge and interchange projectwith completion expected in fall 2026.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 245 to 246, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures for inspection of Route 253 overpass bridge, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Thursday night.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 255 to 256, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures for ditch cleaning and shoulder repairs, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Route 33 (East Market Street, Harrisonburg) – Single-lane closures as needed. Shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for bridge replacements and interchange improvements with expected completion in September 2026.

Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 680 (Oak Ridge Road) and Route 689 (Shen Lake Drive/Spaders Church Road) for utility work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Dec. 23.
