VDOT has updated its schedule of road construction and maintenance in Augusta County, Rockbridge County and Rockingham County.

Augusta County


Interstate 64

  • *UPDATE* Mile marker 89 to 94, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closures including along Exit 91 off-ramps for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 91 to 95, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closures for shoulder and pipe work, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Interstate 81

  • Mile marker 218 to 221, northbound – Overnight single lane closures for paving operations, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. on nights through October 16.
  • Mile marker 220 to 222, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures as needed for construction of I-81 southbound auxiliary lane Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 221 to 224, northbound and southbound – Overnight right lane and shoulder closures for bridge inspection, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday night.
  • Mile marker 221 to 227, northbound and southbound – Single-lane traffic on southbound I-81 ramp to I-64 eastbound at exit 221 through November 2025. Northbound and southbound shoulder closures 24/7 through spring 2026. Traffic restrictions are for I-81 widening project. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 224 to 227, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures for bridge inspection, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
  • Mile marker 234 to 237, northbound and southbound – Left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing lanes.

Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Northbound and southbound single lane closures between Route 781 (Bald Rock Road/Mill Race Road) and Route 1930 (Rolla Mill Road) for painting of bridge over Middle River, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through September 30.

*NEW* Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) – Overnight eastbound right lane closures between I-81 overpass bridges for crane demobilization, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) – Flagger and pilot truck traffic control between Route 715 (Braley Pond Road) and Highland County line for paving operations, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. through October 3.

*NEW* Route 254 (Hermitage Road) – Shoulder closures between New Hope Road and Route 795 (Saint James Road/Glover Circle) for bridge inspection, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

*NEW* Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 276/750 (Keezletown Road) and Route 2003 (Wayside Drive) for railroad crossing maintenance, 6 p.m. Friday (September 19) through 8 a.m. Sunday (September 21). Follow posted detour.

Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 772 (Sulfur Pump Road) and Route 865 (Rockfish Road) for painting of bridge over Middle River, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through September 30.

*NEW* Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) – Northbound and southbound single lane closures between New Hope Road and Bells Lane for bridge inspections, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Route 340 (Eastside Highway) – Northbound and southbound single lane closures and flagger traffic control as needed between Route 663 (Crimora Station Lane/Mine Branch Road) and Route 672/619 (Turk Mountain Lane/Patrick Mill Lane) for changing powerline poles, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday.

*NEW* Route 624 (Mount Torrey Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 1601 (Featherstone Drive) and Route 1607 (Inch Run Lane) for rock and soil testing, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.

*NEW* Route 834 (Hickory Hill Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 631 (Ladd Road) and Route 640 (Goose Creek Road) for waterline installation, 7:30 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Various roads – Mobile traffic control for mowing operations. Flagger traffic control for drainage work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 to 3 p.m. weekdays.

Rockbridge County


Interstate 81

  • *NEW* Mile marker 175 to 177, northbound – Overnight right lane closures for utility work, 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday and Sunday nights (September 20-21).
  • *NEW* Mile marker 186 to 189, northbound – Right shoulder closures for shoulder repairs, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Wednesday.
  • Mile marker 188 to 180, southbound – Overnight single lane closures for paving operations, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday to Thursday nights through October 10.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 199 to 200, northbound – Right shoulder closures for drainage work, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Route 130 (Rockbridge Road) – Flagger traffic control between 8th Street (town of Glasgow) and Douglas Way/Clarktown Lane for fiber installation, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday.

Route 608 (Forge Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 680 (Falling Spring Road) and Route 679 (Lone Jack Road) for fiber installation, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

Interstate 81

  • Mile marker 237 to 238, northbound and southbound – Left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing lanes.
  • Mile marker 242 to 248, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for Route 33 bridge and interchange projectwith completion expected in fall 2026.

Route 33 (East Market Street, Harrisonburg) – Single lane closures or travel-lane shifts as needed between MLK Jr. Way and Linda Lane/Burgess Road. Shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for Route 33 bridge replacements and interchange improvement with expected completion in September 2026.

*NEW* Route 42 (John Wayland Highway, Dayton) – Northbound and southbound turn lane onto Route 290 (Huffman Drive) closed for pavement resurfacing on section of Route 290, Monday through Friday.

Route 211 (New Market Road, Timberville) – Single lane closures between 1514 (East Virginia Avenue) and Route 1515 (Center Street) for construction of business entrance, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Friday.

*NEW* Route 290 (Huffman Drive, Dayton) – Flagger traffic control between Route 42 (John Wayland Highway) and the Cooks Creek bridge for pavement resurfacing, Monday through Friday.

Route 620 (Mountain Valley Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 722 (Armentrout Path) and Route 811 (Fridleys Gap Road) for replacement of bridge over Mountain Run, through September 30. Follow posted detour.

Route 644 (Resort Drive) – Closed between Silverstone Lane and Woodstone Drive for paving operations and turn-lane construction, through about October 31. Follow posted detour.

*UPDATE* Route 726 (Apple Valley Road) – Closed to through traffic between Westminster Way and Crownpoint Drive for pipe installation, through Friday.
