VDOT to close Route 801 in Augusta County Jan. 26 for bridge replacement

Chris Graham

road-work-headerA portion of Route 801 (Hangers Mill Road) in Augusta County will close for about nine months beginning Monday, January 26, during replacement of a bridge over Jennings Branch. The location is about 0.2-mile north of Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) between Staunton and Churchville.

Route 801 will be closed to through traffic between Route 250 and Route 835 (Hotchkiss Road), and drivers will follow the posted detour. Local traffic can access properties along Route 801 by entering from the appropriate side of the bridge.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board in October 2014 awarded a $1.17-million contract to Crossroads Bridge Inc. of Marion, Va. Contractors will replace a single-lane truss bridge built in 1900 with a new two-lane truss bridge. The new bridge and approaches will be slightly realigned to improve sight distance for drivers.

Route 801 is expected to reopen in October 2015. All work is weather permitting.
