theater-masks2Valley Playhouse is pleased to conclude its season with a 2014 Tony Award “Best Play” nominee. Outside Mullingar, by John Patrick Shanley, directed by JMU Professor emeritus Tom Arthur, will run at Court Square Theater April 14-24.

This comedy tells the story of Tony Reilly, an aging Irish cattle farmer. With his wife dead and gone and his own time approaching, Tony threatens to leave his family’s cattle farm to an American nephew instead of his own son and namesake, Anthony. That is, until neighbor Rosemary steps in with a long-held family secret that could change Anthony’s fate and her own. Set in the sprawling Irish countryside, this is the wistful story of Anthony and Rosemary—loners going on 40, eccentric souls, and, perhaps, just right for each other.

Outside Mullingar features, Susan Comfort, Jennifer Murch, Howard Jeffries and Ron Copeland. The creative team includes David Vogel (Scenic, Sound, Lighting) and Kathleen Connery (Costume). This production is recommended for high school and older audiences.

The Valley Playhouse has been providing opportunities to participate in theatrical productions in Harrisonburg since 1966.
