Valley Playhouse presents the Tony Award-winning musical Annie at Court Square Theater Oct. 17-20 and Oct. 24-27.
Directed by JP Gulla and Claire Wayman, with musical director Katey Hallock, A n nie is based upon the popular Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie.
Featuring music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and book by Thomas Meehan, the original Broadway production opened in 1977 and ran for nearly six years, setting a record for the Alvin (now Neil Simon) Theatre. Annie won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Book, Score, Choreography, Scenic Design, and Costume Design.
The Valley Playhouse production features Eleanor Albers as Annie, Bob Lunger as Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks, Sarah Butzen as Grace, Shannon Listol Wilson as Miss Hannigan, Abby Jacobson as Lily St. Regis, and Mark Dowdy as Rooster. Many of the 27 cast members play more than one role. Set design is by J.P. Gulla, with lighting by Mark Dowdy, sound by Josh Mitri, and costumes by Alyssa Partlow.
Performances are Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 17-19 and Oct. 24-26 at 7:30 pm; Sundays Oct. 20 and 27 at 3 pm.
