UVA Tennis: Cassie Mercer claims singles, doubles titles at ITA Summer Circuit event

uva-logo-new2UVA rising sophomore Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.Va.) claimed the singles and doubles titles at the UNC Charlotte ITA Summer Circuit event at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex on Tuesday (July 21).

The top-seeded Mercer went 5-0 en route to the singles title. She defeated Orla Labiche (6-0, 6-3), East Carolina’s Maria Storozheva (walkover), Davidson’s Ava Todd (6-2, 6-2), Mississippi’s Brooke Stevens (6-1, 6-3) and Furman’s Ansley Speaks (7-5, 6-1) in the championship match.

Mercer and Speaks went 4-0 to claim the doubles title. The duo defeated Virginia Tech’s Katherine Butler and Stevens 8-2 in the final.
