Virginia dropped a 1-0 decision to SMU in the ACC Men’s Soccer Championship Final on Sunday, snapping a 14-game unbeaten streak dating back to late August.

The loss dropped the ‘Hoos (12-2-4) to the #2 seed line in the upcoming 2025 NCAA Tournament.

UVA will host the winner of a first-round match between UNC Greensboro (12-4-4) and Elon (9-3-6) on Sunday.

UNCG got an at-large bid after dropping a 1-0 final to Furman in the SoCon Tournament on Sunday.

Elon is the AQ from the CAA by virtue of its 3-0 win over Stony Brook in the league’s championship game on Sunday.

UNCG played UVA to a 1-1 draw in October.

Back to the ACC finale, the only goal of the game came on a PK from Stephan Soghomonian in the 57th minute.

SMU (11-4-4), which earned the #5 seed in the NCAA Tournament with the win, held the ‘Hoos without a shot on goal in the matchup.

“It’s really hard to go into this postseason, meaning the NCAA Tournament, without setback. And today is a setback, which I hope, and think will reinvigorate us. I mean, I’m not sure if that’s what we needed, but I’m sure it will be a motivational thing, and we’ll be back here in four weeks,” Virginia coach George Gelnovatch said.

Here is First Horizon Stadium in Cary, N.C., the host site of the College Cup – the college soccer Final Four – which is set for Dec. 12 and Dec. 15.
