The UVA Football spring game will not be televised, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they have security watching you to make sure you’re not surreptitiously recording the action on your cell phones.
Everybody in college football is doing the cloak-and-dagger thing with their spring games, if they’re even having spring games – and I’ll be honest here, I wouldn’t.
UVA Athletics announced the details of the spring game on Friday, telling us that the game will go on as scheduled on Saturday, April 18, at 3:30 p.m. ET, with free admission.
Seriously, they need to do the concert thing and tell you not to record anything, or maybe even what I’ve experienced at some standup comedy shows, where they have you leave your phone in a pouch to pick up afterward.
That’s how paranoid everybody is in the transfer portal era – that rival schools will watch the spring game on ACC Network or The Ocho and find a second-string linebacker getting reps late in the game who would be worth a decent NIL/revenue-sharing offer.
This is why I’m suggesting the no phones thing; that guy at Michigan might be freelancing now, but there are other guys like him thinking, here’s where he went wrong, and where I can get away with it.
