uva basketballThe National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) honored Virginia’s Tony Bennett, Malcolm Brogdon (Atlanta, Ga.) and Justin Anderson (Montross, Va.) on Friday (March 27).

Bennett was named 2014-15 UPS NABC District 2 Coach of the Year, while Brogdon Anderson were named to the NABC All-District 2 First Team. Bennett and Brogdon earned NABC All-District 2 honors for the second consecutive season.

Bennett, who earned U.S. Basketball Writers Association National Coach of the Year honors on March 23, guided No. 6 UVA to a 30-4 record, including a 28-2 mark during the regular season. The Cavaliers captured the ACC regular-season title for the second straight year and became the first ACC school to win 16 or more games in back-to-back seasons. The Cavaliers lead the nation in scoring defense for the second consecutive season at 51.5 points per game and Virginia has been ranked in the top 10 the entire season. Bennett also earned NABC District Coach of the Year honors in 2006-07 at Washington State.

Brogdon led the Cavaliers in scoring at 14 points per game and free throw percentage at 87.9 percent. He scored in double figures in 27 games, including five 20-point games, highlighted by a career-high 25 points against North Carolina in the ACC Tournament semifinals. Brogdon has also earned USBWA All-America second-team honors and All-ACC first-team honors from the media and coaches.

Anderson earns his first NABC All-District 2 honor despite missing eight games of the season due to a fractured finger suffered on Feb. 7 and an appendectomy on March 5. He was second on the team in scoring at 12.2 points per game and was leading the ACC in 3-point percentage at 48.4 percent before he was injured.
