I mean, 22 runs for the offense, that’s good, but a 22-16 win in baseball, the final in today’s Virginia-Boston College game, no, that’s not good.

Starting pitcher Tomas Valincius didn’t get out of the fourth, getting tagged with six runs, four earned, on eight hits in three and two-thirds innings.

The freshman lefty left down 6-3, but UVA (9-4, 1-1 ACC) scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth, on a three-run triple from Henry Godbout and a two-run homer from Chris Arroyo, the first of his two homers on the day.

BC (5-6, 1-1 ACC) regained the lead with a three-spot in the top of the seventh, but Virginia got the lead back, and more, with a nine-run bottom half.

The Eagles scored four in the top of the eight, the ‘Hoos answered with five, and Boston College scored three in the ninth.

Thirty-eight runs, 35 hits, 19 walks, five hit batters.

Virginia pitchers walked 12.

Only 11 of the runs were earned, so, there’s that.

The official scorer had to give somebody the win, and that somebody was Drew Koenen (2-0, 1.80 ERA).

Koenen got the W despite giving up four runs, though only one was earned, in an inning and two-thirds, allowing one hit, walking three and striking out one.

The staff ERA went up from 2.85 entering the game to 3.48.

On the flip side, Arroyo, with his 5-for-5, two-homer, six-RBI day, saw his batting average rise from .273 to .347, and he now has five homers and 18 RBIs through 13 games this season.

The final score tomorrow will probably be something like 2-1.
