US Forest Service public workshop on Lower Cowpasture Project

lower cowpastureJoin Wild Virginia at a public workshop on the US Forest Service’s plan for the Lower Cowpasture area, a region consisting of both public and private lands located within Bath and Alleghany Counties.

The US Forest Service recently completed a draft Environment Assessment for the Lower Cowpasture Restoration and Management Project. This large landscape-scale project aims to implement resource management on both a longer timeframe (~10 year) and larger scale (~117,552 acres) than recent projects.

The project includes plans to increase native species biodiversity, improve riparian environments, decomission and/or repair roads and culverts, increase managed fires, and allow commercial timber harvest.

A public workshop will be held by the Forest Service on June 8, at 6pm in the Millboro Elementary School in Millboro.
