Update: Pilot identified in fatal plane crash on private airstrip in Virginia

The pilot of a plane who died Wednesday afternoon after crashing at a private airstrip in Scott County has now been identified.

Bradley Nelms, 54, of Washington County, was the only fatality, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash occurred Dec. 4 at 2:51 p.m. in the 700 block of Davinci Drive. The flight originated from the Abingdon Highlands Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified.

The crash remains under investigation.
