United Way, WVPT partner to broadcast inaugural ‘Volunteer Connection’

WVPT Public Television, in partnership with The United Way of Greater Augusta, The United Way of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County and The United Way Thomas Jefferson Area, will host a 60-minute special on Saturday July 14th at 7 p.m.  The “Volunteer Connection” will highlight dozens of volunteer needs throughout the region.  The United Way organizations will coordinate these efforts on behalf of the many service organizations in each area.

“Research has proven that those that volunteer have lower mortality rates and lower rates of depression later in life that those that don’t volunteer,” said Cynthia Pritchard, executive director of United Way of Greater Augusta.  “Volunteering does not just help others, but it can help you too.”

“We are proud to be able to provide this unique service, and help the many great organizations in our region,” said David Mullins, WVPT general manager. “We want this to be the first of what will become a regular event on WVPT.”

During the hour-long special, viewers can call in and select from the many volunteer opportunities and needs that will be presented.  In addition, several organizations will be featured – with the theme of the event being: Volunteering Can Be Fun, Easy & A Great Benefit To Your Community.
