Contributors

The United Way of Greater Augusta has received $52,842 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the Greater Augusta region.

The monies were granted to The Salvation Army of Waynesboro and Staunton, the Valley Mission homeless shelter and the Verona Food Pantry. A local board made up of religious leaders, civic leaders, community leaders and local recipient organizations is responsible for recommending these agencies who received the funds and also any additional funds that may be made available under this phase of the program.

To be eligible to receive a grant, local agencies must have meet these criteria: 1) be private voluntary non-profits or units of government, 2) be eligible to receive federal funds, 3) have an accounting system, 4) practice nondiscrimination, 5) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and 6) if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board.
