Two men received serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash on Thursday morning in Clarke County.

Ethan L. Powell, 18, of Hedgesville, W.Va., was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

A passenger, a 19-year-old male who has not been identified, was transported to Winchester Medical Center for treatment.

The crash occurred at 9:02 a.m. on Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) near Gordons Ridge Lane.

According to Virginia State Police, the 2006 Lincoln Zephyr was traveling westbound on Route 7 at a high rate of speed when it ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, ran off the left side of the roadway into the median and overturned several times.

Powell, the driver, and his passenger were not wearing seatbelts, according to VSP.

Charges are pending as the crash remains under investigation.

As a result of the initial crash, several vehicles were stopped eastbound on Route 7 when an eastbound dump truck was unable to stop. The dump truck rear-ended a Ford Fusion which caused a chain-reaction crash involving a total of six vehicles.

No one was injured in the secondary crash, and no charges were placed.
