A new “signature” show takes the stage of WTA’s Gateway on Friday, September 7. The performance is the creation of The River City Boys who have been delighting area audiences with their musical style. The Boys approached the Wayne Theatre Alliance with a proposal to combine their singing with other area talents, not unlike the vaudeville shows the Wayne Theatre was designed to offer. Their proposal was readily accepted.
The River City Boys first performance was the Virginia Dreams’ television show a couple years ago. Their appeal was instantaneous with its musical variety, harmonies and strong individual voices. “We performed at the River City Radio Hour last year and were excited that Waynesboro had such a great facility. It is an ideal stage for many different types of acts that bring joy and entertainment to the audience,” said Randy Clark. His sentiments were echoed by Andy Fletcher who said, “We look forward to bringing good family fun and great music to downtown Waynesboro. There will be something for everyone.”
Besides Clark and Fletcher, the quartet includes the brothers Chris and Tim Williams. The four singers represent decades of professional singing in a multitude of musical style from contemporary to folk, gospel and country. “The River City Boys is an entertaining group with many years of stage experience,” says Tim Williams. “Four distinct personalities form the group and provide entertainment well beyond the music.”
Appearing with The River City Boys will be comedian Gare Galbraith. Formerly of New York City, Galbraith is the host of a popular Charlottesville radio show on WINA. A professional astrologer and psychic, he combines his wit and life experiences with his ability to “read” his audience. The cast of Charlottesville’s Black Box Theatre’s production of Bye, Bye Birdie will also entertain. The Black Box Theatre has been a Central Virginia theatrical fixture for over 25 years.
“We are very excited to be able to offer the River City Boys’ Jamboree. It is going to be an evening to remember!” said Clair Myers, Executive Director of the Wayne Theatre Alliance.
