A 32-year-old North Carolina man is dead after he crashed his vehicle at a high rate of speed in Tazewell County Monday afternoon.

Albert M. Bright, 32, of King, N.C., died at the scene.  He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Virginia State Police is investigating the fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Feb. 24 at 4:40 p.m. on Abbs Valley Road.

Bright’s 2013 Chevy Silverado was traveling northbound in the 6200 block of Abbs Valley Road at a high rate of speed when the Silverado went off of the right side of the road. The vehicle struck an embankment, a rock wall, and then a fence, which caused it to become airborne. The airborne Silverado then struck an abandoned house, according to VSP.

A passenger, Lee A. Franklin, 55, suffered serious injuries.

A second passenger, Richard A. Bright, 49, suffered minor injuries.

Neither was wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation.
