At Sweet Wag Shakespeare’s Hamlet watch it all unfold first-hand in 60 minutes as Hamlet grapples with the ultimate question “to be or not to be” in a world where anyone with access to the internet can perform their life on a global stage.
Nothing is secret in Denmark. Hamlet’s unraveling is a public spectacle, gossiped about in court and posted online to be devoured by strangers. Combining the pervasive social media of today with Shakespeare’s paranoid tragedy,Hamlet is an uneasy mix of performances both public and private and conflicts both political and personal.
Find out the truth behind those rumors you’ve been hearing at Sweet Wag’s Hamlet, a twisted, political thriller that will leave you with more questions than answers. Are we ever really alone? In a world in which anything we do can be seen, when are we not performing? Is there a difference between performance and reality?
Sweet Wag Shakespeare is Mary Baldwin College’s current Shakespeare and Performance Master of Fine Arts company. Sweet Wag Shakespeare unites early modern plays with innovative performance techniques to create incisive and insistent productions. Hamlet is the first of three touring shows Sweet Wag Shakespeare will produce this season and can be booked for performances at schools and community venues with the option of supporting workshops.
Hamlet is directed by Aubrey Whitlock. Hamlet opens at 8PM on October 12 and 13 at the Blackfriars Playhouse.
