Swannanoa, Royal Orchard focus of history lecture at Wayne Theatre

Chris Graham

swannanoaEdward Lay presents the monthly history lecture at the Wayne Theatre titled “Mansions of the Blue Ridge: Swannanoa and Royal Orchard” on Tuesday, June 28, at 7 p.m.

Admission is Pay What You Will. No advance tickets are required.
Lay, a Cary D. Langhorne Professor Emeritus of Architecture at the University of Virginia, will provide an overview of architecture and architects at the turn of the 20th century, a review of some national examples before focusing on Swannanoa and the Dooleys, and Royal Orchard and the Scotts and the architect John Russell Pope.
“Swannanoa is known worldwide, and the development of Swannanoa and Royal Orchard at the entrance to Waynesboro on Afton Mountain is an important piece in our local history. This should be an interesting and informative talk,” said Tracy Straight, the executive director of the Wayne Theatre.

The presentation is sponsored by Realtor Katherine McNicholas.

The Wayne Theatre/Ross Performing Arts Center is located at 521 West Main Street in downtown Waynesboro.
