Sunday brunch and baseball highlight Richmond Flying Squirrels 2016 schedule

richmond-squirrelsThe Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, in conjunction with the Eastern League of Professional Baseball Clubs, have announced their 2016 Eastern League schedule that will include a new twist for next year. AllSunday home games will celebrate the greatest meal known to mankind…brunch.

Sunday home games will begin at 12:05 PMand the Squirrels will wear unique, brunch-themed jerseys with food service focused on serving brunch buffets, brunch food items and popular brunch related drinks. The full 2016 schedule consists of 142 games, 71 of which will be played at The Diamond in Richmond. The Squirrels will open the 2016 season on the road for the inaugural game at Dunkin’ Donuts Park in Hartford, CT against the newly-named Hartford Yard Goats (Colorado Rockies) on Thursday, April 7th, 2016. The Diamond home opener will be on April 14th vs. the Altoona Curve.

“While we are still trying to make the playoffs and draw huge crowds to the Diamond for this weekend, we are already planning for 2016. As we finalize the details for our Baseball Brunch Sundays, we know our fans will be excited about it and other energetic, and tasty, changes planned for 2016,” said Flying Squirrels VP & COO Todd “Parney” Parnell. “We felt Richmond is known as a brunch town so why not crossover to baseball and brunch, nobody in our industry that we know of, has ever consistently done what we are doing on Sundays in 2016.”

For the seventh consecutive season, the Squirrels will have the honor of hosting a game on Independence Day at The Diamond. The opponent on July 4th will be the Reading Fightin Phils (Philadelphia Phillies). The Squirrels will welcome Reading and Trenton (New York Yankees) for a home stand that will run from July 4th – July 10th.

The Baysox will once again be the most commonly-played opponent for the Squirrels in 2016 as the Western Division rivals will meet 19 times. The Squirrels will host the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox) at The Diamond from June 17th – 19th. The newly minted Hartford Yard Goats wil make their Diamond debut on April 29th for a three game series.

A full PDF of the schedule with game times is attached. Season-ticket packages, mini-plans, individual and group ticket options will be available for the 2016 season.

The Squirrels return home to The Diamond on Friday night to begin the final series of the regular season. Squirrels RHP Joan Gregorio (3-2, 3.34) will make the start against Reading RHP Zack Eflin (8-6, 3.58). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05with the Pregame Warmup beginning at 6:35 PM on Fox Sports 910 and FoxSportsRichmond.com. The Remaining Squirrels promotional schedule is as follows: (9/4) Free Shirt Fridays, Happy Hour & Ladies Night. (9/5) Superblast Saturday and 20th Anniversary of Billy Madison. (9/6) Kids Club Metal Lunchbox Giveaway. (9/7) Bark In the Park #3 – Labor Day.
