Study: Waynesboro is second-cheapest place to get a speeding ticket in Virginia

economic-forecast-headerSpeeding tickets happen and they’re likely much more expensive than you think. Consumer finance site NerdWallet has discovered the true cost of a speeding ticket in Virginia. Drivers in Waynesboro can expect to pay $298.50 over three years (because that’s how long insurance increases last). That figure is almost $100 cheaper than in Richmond, Virginia’s most expensive city.

More from the study:

Drivers who get caught speeding will have to pay a fine, $6 for each mile over the speed limit plus court costs, which results in a total fine of $141 for driving 15 miles per hour over the speed limit.

The true cost of a speeding ticket in Virginia is 2.38 times the cost of the actual ticket—drivers pay an average of $335.84 in total for a $141 speeding ticket.
