environmentStuarts Draft Retirement Community and Christian Homes marked the installation of a new solar energy system in a ceremony on Saturday.

With the new system, 37 percent of the Stuarts Draft Retirement Community’s energy will be generated by solar.

The solar array was installed by Sigora Solar, the largest solar design and installation company in Virginia, based in Charlottesville.

“This is a really great accomplishment for our community,” said Leland Brenneman, CEO of the Stuarts Draft Retirement Community. “Not only are we cutting our monthly utility costs, but we’re making the environment cleaner for our community and our families. My hope is that we can pass the savings on to our residents.”

Sigora Solar is installing a 209-kilowatt (kW) system that will produce more than 278,860 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity each year. A typical homeowner uses 12,000 kWh a year.

Producing that amount of clean local energy has a tremendous benefit to the environment. To provide some prospective, to have the same environmental impact as SDRC’s solar array each year you would need to plant 5,378 tree seedlings and let them grow for 10 years, stop 227,060 pounds of coal from being burned, create a new 244 acre forest, or drive 508,660 miles in your passenger car.

“We’re very proud to call Stuarts Draft Retirement Community and Christian Homes a customer of Sigora,” said Logan Landry the Sigora Solar CEO. “It’s a beautiful location, with wonderful residents and staff, and now we can say it’s a community producing its own electricity. Thanks for trusting Sigora.”

“We’re very experienced at this kind of work, this an incredibly fast-growing industry, and we’re happy to see SDRC lead the way here in their community.” said Sean Barkley, the SDRC project director for Sigora Solar.

Stuarts Draft Retirement Community and Christian Homes is a family owned and operated community that has served the families of Augusta County for over 30 years. SDRC provides the best in both Independent Living and Assisted Living care offering 120 apartments and 40 assisted living beds. SDRC is committed to high quality care and personalized service for both the residents of SDRC and their families

Sigora Solar was founded in 2011, and the privately-owned company ranks as one of Inc. 500’s fastest growing companies.

Ron Sanchez on struggling TJ Power: ‘We’re just trying to coach him up’

The book on TJ Power, a former five-star recruit who spent his freshman year at Duke, is, that something must have happened at Duke that ruined his confidence in his game. I definitely think that could be part of the issue for Power, a 6’9” stretch four, who got just 7.0 minutes per game as...

Mailbag: Did Tony Bennett quit coaching because Jalen Warley held him up for more money?

I heard from a good UVA Basketball source that Jalen Warley went to Tony Bennett in October and demanded more money, and that is the nail that got Bennett to retire from coaching.
