The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

INTERSTATE 64

Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge until late 2015 while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

Detours: Drivers approaching from the north will follow Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) east into the city of Waynesboro, Lew Dewitt Boulevard south and Route 340 (Rosser Avenue) south back to I-64. Drivers approaching from the south will follow Route 631 (Ladd Road) east and Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) north back to I-64.

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Lane shifts on both sides of new bridge over Gooney Creek. Shoulder closures and occasional lane closures as needed. Work zone from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605. Estimated completion October 2015.
Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Lane shift and temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection from north end of bridge to Duck Street. Lane shift and closure of center turn lane from south end of bridge to just south of 17thStreet. Through traffic using 18th Street will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street. Changes in effect through December 2015 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.
