The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

Mile marker 53.3 to 55.3, eastbound and westbound – Eastbound traffic will detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge until late 2015 while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

Message boards in place in advance to alert motorists of closure. Detours: From Route 11 turn onto Route 752 (Hunter Hill Road) and left onto Route 681, then back onto Route 631. From 631/681 intersection, turn onto Route 681, then right on Route 752 (Hunter Hill Road) back to Route 11. Rain date October 28.
Route 708 (Gilmore’s Mill Road) – Road closed at Cedar Creek bridge just east of Route 608 (Shafer Lane). Detour using Route 608 and Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway). Bridge scheduled for replacement with fall 2016 completion.
