Staunton VDOT District Traffic Alerts: Aug. 3-7

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT District during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 10, eastbound – Bridge work at exit 10. Lane closures Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Exit ramps will remain open during construction.  Estimated completion August 8, 2015.

Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal, clearing sign areas, cleaning ditches and slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 220 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 269 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation.  Ditching and shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Patching with flagger traffic control. Mowing with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 678 – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for paving and pavement marking from Route 614 to Route 610.  Monday through Friday.  Estimated completion August 7.

Various roads – Patching with flagger traffic control. Mowing with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal and cleaning paved ditches, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 47.4 – Shoulder repair Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 53.3 to 55.3, eastbound and westbound.  Eastbound traffic will detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge until late 2015 while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, cleaning paved ditches and clearing sign areas.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 190.0 to 195.3, northbound – Alternating lane closures Sunday, August 2, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning, and nightly 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning Monday to Thursday throughAugust 7.  Shoulder-only closures Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. – Guardrail work and paving operations.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 60 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 252 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing and sweeping with a mobile operation. Patching, shoulder repairs, pipe replacement, brush cutting and pothole repairs with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 627 (Sycamore Valley Drive) – Closed through August 7 for bridge replacement over Gilmer Creek. Closure is 0.25 mile north of Route 628 (Mohler’s Loop) to 0.95 mile north of Route 622 (Chestnut Grove Trail). Traffic going north will be detoured to Route 755 (Dug Row Road) and then to Route 626 (Hackens Road). Traffic going south with be detoured to Route 626 (Hackens Road) then to Route 755 (Dug Row Road.)

(NEW) Route 704 (Middle Road) – Road closed August 13-14 at the intersection of Route 704 and Route 631 (Old Buena Vista Road), just north of Buena Vista for pipe replacement under the roadway.  Detours:  Drivers approaching from the north will detour east onto Route 631, which turns into Longhollow Road and continues south back to Route 704.

Drivers approaching from the south can use Route 704 up to the Intersection of Route 831 (Landfill Road).

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing and sweeping with a mobile operation. Patching, ditching, shoulder repairs, pipe replacement, grading and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 220 – Spot paving repairs with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 600 (Upper Back Creek Road) – Road repairs with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday,7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 614 (Cowpasture River Road North) – Patching with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday,7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 678 (Cowpasture River Road North) – Spot paving repairs. Spot leveling from Route 615 (Davis Run Road) to McDowell.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Spot paving repairs with flagger traffic control.  Mowing with a mobile operation.   Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.  

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 89 to 93, eastbound – Overnight lane closures for shoulder work and pavement marking. August 3 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning.  August 5 through August 8 from 1a.m. to 7 a.m.

Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Shoulder closures Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion Sept. 28, 2015.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, clearing sign areas, and cleaning paved ditches, bridge slopes and drop inlets.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Route 42 (Little Calf Pasture Highway) – Flagger-controlled traffic for shoulder and guardrail improvements from Route 254 in Buffalo Gap area to Route 685 at Craigsville. Monday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 6, 2015.

Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on-ramps Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion Sept. 28, 2015.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over White Oak Draft. Work zone is about 0.5 mile west of Route 728.  Estimated project completion Jan. 29, 2016.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) – Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over Calfpasture River. Work zone is just east of Route 715 (Braley Pond Road).  Estimated project completion March 2016.

(NEW) Route 340 – Right lane closure from Route 649 (Augusta Farm Road) to Route 635 (Kindig Road) for pavement restoration.  August 4, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) – Right lane closure on Route 340 southbound in Stuarts Draft for turn lane construction, through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 340 (Rosser Avenue, Waynesboro), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., for installation of traffic-management system near I-64 on-ramps. Estimated completion Sept. 28, 2015.

Route 340/635 Intersection – Lane shifts and shoulder closures for gas line installation on northbound shoulder.  Estimated completion Oct. 23, 2015.

(UPDATE) Route 340 at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road, Stuarts Draft) – Right lane and shoulder closures at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road) through August 31 for utility work.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 608 (Tinkling Springs Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for intersection improvements at Route 608/635 intersection.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion Dec. 15, 2015.

Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures Monday to Friday,6 a.m. to 7 p.m., for installation of traffic-management system near I-64 on-ramps. Estimated completion Sept. 28, 2015.

Route 635 (Augusta Farms Road/Ramsey Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for intersection improvements at Route 608/635 intersection. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion Dec. 15, 2015.

Route 636 (Lifecore Drive) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road widening west of Route 285.

Route 693 (Cedar Green Road)Lane closure for utility installation between Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike) and Route 704 (William Cousins Road) at Valley Manor Subdivision.  Estimated completion August 14.

(NEW) Route 704 and 708 – Pilot truck controlled lane closures for paving at various locations. August 5 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 711 – Pilot truck controlled lane closure for paving at various locations. August 3 and 4 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 715 – Pilot truck controlled lane closure for paving at various locations. August 7 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 801 (Hangers Mill Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) and Route 835 (Hotchkiss Road) for bridge replacement. Traffic will follow the posted detour. Local traffic will have access during construction. Estimated completion October 2015.

(NEW) Route 832 – Pilot truck controlled lane closure for paving at various locations. August 6 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 833 – Pilot truck controlled lane closure for paving at various locations. August 5 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, hand mowing around signs and ditches. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Right shoulder closure between Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) and Route 704 (Boyers Road) for utility work. August 5 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 pm.

(NEW) Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Single lane closure westbound between Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) and Route 1165 (Robin Lane) for water line installation.  Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 pm.

(NEW) Route 259 (Town of Broadway) – Road reduced to single lane traffic controlled by flaggers for milling and paving work as part of guardrail installation project. Work zone from Route 259, west of Broadway city limits, to Route 612 south.  Nightly, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning, July 31 through August 7.

Route 340 (Town of Elkton) – Periodic flagger-controlled lane closures for sidewalk and road improvements.  New Terrace Avenue permanent traffic pattern began July 19. All northbound traffic will be directed down E street to Route 340.  Work zone from F Street to 0.18 miles south of East Street.  Monday through Friday.  Estimated completion Sept. 18, 2015.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 721 (Fellowship Road) – Bridge replacement 0.70 mile east of Route 11 (North Valley Pike) to 0.40 mile west of Route 717 (Indian Trail Road) beginning July 20.  Temporary bridge with a “stop and proceed” work zone in place 24/7. Estimated completion August 28.

(NEW) Route 991 (Jacob Burner Drive), McGaheysville area) – Alternating northbound and southbound lane closures with flagger traffic control, August 4 through August 7, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day – Soil testing for Stoney Creek Run bridge replacement project.  Work zone is about 0.5 miles southeast of Route 996 (McGaheysville Road) intersection.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as needed.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 340 (Fourth Street, Town of Shenandoah) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving from Route 693 (Trenton Avenue ) to Route 1004 (Virginia Avenue). Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion August 4.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 616 (Leaksville Road) – Right and left shoulder closures.  Flagger controlled single lane closures as needed for construction of turn lanes at Luray High School. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Estimated completion Sept. 4, 2015.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, hand cleaning paved ditches, repairing slopes and cleaning slopes under bridges. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 299, northbound and southbound at Warren county line – Shoulder closures as needed for bridge work at Cedar Creek.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Sept. 25, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 263 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Mowing.  Monday – Thursday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 605 (Hoover Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving operations, shoulder stone and pavement marking operations from Route 623 (Back Road) to Route 763 (Patmos Road).  7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion date August 7.

(NEW) Route 609 (South Hollingsworth Road), Woodstock area – pedestrian bridge just west of roadway closed until further notice for repairs.

Route 676 (Fravel Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving operations, shoulder stone and pavement marking operations from Route 623 (Back Road) to Route 604 (Fairview Road).  7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion date August 7.

Route 758 (7 Fountains Road – Fort Valley area) – Road closure for bridge replacement over Passage Creek, 0.7 miles from southern intersection with Route 678 (Fort Valley Road). Local traffic can access properties north of bridge by approaching from northern intersection of Routes 758/678. Estimated completion May 2016.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Pipe cleaning and ditching.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

No lane closures reported.

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Debris removal and cleaning catch basins. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 309 to 311, northbound and southbound – Right and left shoulders closed 24/7.  Night work will continue southbound at mile marker 311 on August 3. The existing right lane will be closed nightly Monday through Thursday, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following mornings for installation of concrete barriers along the right shoulder area.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange), northbound and southbound Be alert for construction vehicles and related activities at exit 310 interchange and intersection with Tasker Road (Route 642) and Hillandale Drive (Route 847), as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Estimated project completion May 2018.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange),  Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.44 miles south of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project.  Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated  project completion May 2018.

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange), Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.31 miles north of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

(NEW) Various roads – Ditching, brush cutting and mowing.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 340 (Lord Fairfax Highway) – Flagger controlled lane closures, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for paving, shoulder work and pavement marking. Estimated completion August 14.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 601 (Blue Ridge Mountain Road, Mount Weather area) – Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge deck over Route 601. Lane width reduced to 12’ and height restriction of 13’ in place.  Work zone speed reduced to 30 mph.  Work zone is about 0.5 mile north and south of Route 605/601 intersection.  Estimated project completion October 1.

 

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

Mile marker 0 to 15 – Debris removal. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 7, eastbound and westbound – Single lane closures for bridge work at Shenandoah River, Monday to Thursday with variable schedules of day and night work between 8 a.m. and 4 a.m. the following day.  Estimated completion August 15.

 

INTERSTATE 81
(NEW) Mile marker 299
, northbound and southbound at Shenandoah county line – Shoulder closures as needed for bridge work at Cedar Creek. Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Sept. 25, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Intersection modification at Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 55/340/522 intersection, and lane shift from 340/522 to Forest Hill Drive. Changes in effect through December 2015 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Lane shifts on both sides of new bridge over Gooney Creek. Shoulder closures and occasional lane closures as needed. Work zone from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605. Estimated completion October 2015.

Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Lane shift and temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection from north end of bridge to Duck Street. Lane shift and closure of center turn lane from south end of bridge to just south of 17thStreet. Through traffic using 18th Street will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street.  Changes in effect through December 2015 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 840 (Water Plant Road) – Flagger controlled lane and shoulder closures as needed for repairs of I-81 bridges over Route 840.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Aug. 28, 2015.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Brush cutting and pipe cleaning.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.

Traffic alerts and traveler information can be obtained by dialing 511 and at 511Virginia.org. For other assistance call the VDOT Customer Service Center 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Dial 1-800-FOR-ROAD(1-800-367-7623) from anywhere in the state to report road hazards, ask transportation questions, or get information related to Virginia’s roads.
