The City of Staunton has removed “interim” from the title of its fire chief promoting Jason Ball, effective immediately.
Ball has been serving as the interim fire chief since April.
He has been with Staunton Fire and Rescue since 1998 with has held titles including lieutenant, captain, shift commander and deputy fire chief of operations.
“We are excited to have Jason move into this position permanently,” said Leslie Beauregard, city manager. “Jason is a leader that advocates for all employees as a member of the Staunton employee committee and is constantly shining a light on the important work and outreach from the members of the Staunton Fire and Rescue Department.”
Ball started his firefighting career volunteering at Weyers Cave Fire Company in 1994.
He has a degree in occupational safety and health with a fire science concentration from Columbia Southern University.
Ball looks forward to serving the city in the permanent role.
“I am honored to continue serving the City of Staunton and the men and women of our entire department as the fire chief,” said Ball. “The safety of our residents and visitors is paramount to me and our department. I look forward to working hard, continuing to strengthen our ties in the community and the service we provide.”
